Jesus fasted in the desert for 40 days. Why 40 days?

 The number 40 is deeply symbolic in the Bible.  The number 40 appears over 140 times. It  represents periods of testing, purification, and preparation. Jesus fasting for 40 days in the desert (Matthew 4:2, Luke 4:2) reflects several key biblical events: Moses on Mount Sinai – Moses fasted for 40 days before receiving the Ten Commandments ( Exodus 34:28 ). Elijah’s Journey – The prophet Elijah traveled for 40 days to Mount Horeb, sustained only by God’s provision ( 1 Kings 19:8 ). The Great Flood – Rain fell for 40 days and 40 nights as God purified the earth ( Genesis 7:12 ). The Israelites’ Journey – The Israelites wandered the desert for 40 years , preparing to enter the Promised Land ( Numbers 14:33-34 ). Nineveh’s Warning – Jonah preached that Nineveh had 40 days to repent ( Jonah 3:4 ).
